Why we built ADU Pass

Mission

Housing affordability is broken in most of the cities we care about. Accessory Dwelling Units — granny flats, in-law suites, backyard cottages — are one of the most effective tools homeowners have to increase housing supply on lots they already own. But the permitting process is opaque, inconsistent across jurisdictions, and built for professionals who submit dozens of applications a year. It is not built for a homeowner submitting one.

ADU Pass fills the specific gap between “I know I want an ADU” and “my permit packet is complete and ready to submit.” We are not a construction company, not a finance company, and not a broker. We are a focused service that handles the paperwork step competently and honestly.

Our approach

Every rule on this site comes directly from the relevant municipal code, cross-checked against state law where applicable. We verify each jurisdiction’s rules quarterly at minimum, and we surface the last-verified date on every result so you can see exactly how fresh the data is. When a project hits an edge case the published rules don’t cleanly answer, we escalate to a human permitting expert rather than guessing.
